Homemade Easy Restaurant Salsa

This Homemade Easy Restaurant Salsa is healthy, fresh, and simple to make! It tastes just like it’s from your favorite restaurant!

Makes 8 ( 1/2 cup) servings

What ingredients do I need to make this Homemade Easy Restaurant Salsa?

  • Whole tomatoes, not drained or fresh Roma tomatoes– canned or fresh works great for this recipe. In the summer I love to using fresh garden tomatoes.
  • White onion-small. Peeled and chopped.
  • Jalapeño Peppers membranes removed, if desired-seeded and chopped. You can control of the spiciness of this recipe. If you would prefer you can remove the membrane from the jalapeños to reduce the spice. Did you know the inner membranes or rib of the pepper is concentrated with capsaicin, which is the chemical compound that contains fiery heat? While the seeds may be coated with some of the capsaicin since they’re in contact with the rib, however they themselves don’t actually contain any heat. Or you could keep the membranes in for more spice or add more jalapeños.
  • Garlic cloves- chopped.
  • Lime juice- from 2 limes.
  • Salt-to taste.
  • Sugar-optional. You can also you zero point white granulated sweetener. Just a pinch of sugar or sweetener cuts through the acidity of the tomatoes and gives a balance of flavoring.
  • Cilantro-fresh. This is optional but highly recommended. If you’re not a fan of cilantro, just omit it, if you desire.

Thank you so much for a budget friendly canned salsa recipe. I skipped the cilantro. This is definitely a keeper. Fresh tomatoes are so expensive 10 months of the year and not much taste.

I make large batches of salsa in the fall very similar to this recipe. I add a few more items, like bell peppers and onions but do not add sugar. Would this have the same 0 point value as your recipe?
