You may have tried a traditional Seven Layer Salad when you were growing up. It’s been a classic salad for potlucks and summertime BBQs.
This version of Seven Layer Salad has been lightened up using light mayo, nonfat plain Greek yogurt for the base of the dressing, center-cut bacon instead of thick-cut bacon crumbles.
Plus, reduced fat cheddar cheese instead of regular whole fat cheese—so now it’s easier to bring along to any summer celebration! A classic layered salad with seven colorful layers and a homemade lightened-up creamy dressing. It’s an easy make-ahead salad that looks and tastes fantastic.

What ingredients do I need to make this Easy Seven Layer Salad?
- Iceberg or romaine lettuce-washed, patted dry, and shredded
- Red onion–chopped
- Grape or cherry tomatoes– sliced
- Green peas–thawed if frozen
- Hard boiled eggs-chopped
- Reduced fat or fat free cheddar cheese- shredded
- Center cut bacon– cooked and crumbled
- Light Kraft or Best Foods Mayo– any brand of light mayo will work.
- Non fat plain Greek yogurt or fat free sour cream – I like use non fat plain Greek yogurt. It’s packed with protein and really when it’s combined with the light mayo and seasonings you don’t even taste it.
- Apple cider vinegar
- Dried parsley
- Dried oregano
- Onion powder
- Salt
- Black pepper
Other ingredients you can add to this Easy Seven Layer Salad?
- 1 large cucumber, chopped
- 1 cup cubed ham
- 1 can (4 oz) sliced black olives, drained
- 1 red pepper, seeded and sliced thin (or diced)
- Scallions, chopped
How do I make this Easy Seven Layer Salad?
In a medium size mixing bowl, stir together the salad dressing ingredients
Whisk until smooth.
In a trifle bowl, layer the salad in the order of the ingredients listed:
chopped lettuce
chopped and sliced red onion
hard boiled eggs
chopped tomatoes
green peas
creamy homemade dressing
reduced fat or fat free cheese
and bacon crumbles.
Cover the salad and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
Just before to serving, garnish with green scallions and/or freshly chopped parsley, if desired.

- 2 cups grape tomatoes, sliced
- 12 ounces green peas, thawed if frozen
- 3/4 cup 50% reduced fat or fat free sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 9 slices center cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
For the Salad Dressing:
- 1 and 1/3 cup light Kraft or Best Foods Mayo
- 1/2 cup non fat plain Greek yogurt or fat free sour cream
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Directions:
- In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the salad dressing ingredients and whisk until smooth.
