What ingredients do I need to make this Lightened Up Biscuits And Gravy Casserole?
- Refrigerated biscuits– I use Great Value from Walmart
- Breakfast turkey sausage– I use Butterball breakfast sausage
- Reduced fat cheese-any cheese will work. I like to use a 4 blend reduced fat cheese. Shredded.
- Large eggs-for protein and used as a binding agent in the casserole.
- Skim milk- I like to use Fairlife skim milk for added protein. You can use unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened coconut milk.
- Kosher salt-to taste
- Ground black pepper-to taste
- Water– to mix with gravy powder
- Pork gravy mix-for gravy
How do I make this Lightened Up Biscuits And Gravy Casserole?
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray.
Cut biscuit dough into 1″ pieces, and line the bottom of the prepared pan with biscuit pieces.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir sausage in the skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard any grease.
Layer cooked sausage over the layer of biscuit pieces,
Layer 1/2 cup shredded cheese over the sausage.
In a separate bowl whisk eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
Meanwhile, mix water and gravy mix together in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until gravy is thickened, 1 to 2 minutes, adding more water for a thinner gravy. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Pour egg mixture over biscuit pieces and sausage, then pour gravy over egg layer.
Bake in the preheated oven until eggs and biscuits are cooked through, about 30-35 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
