If you’re following Weight Watchers, you’re probably just as excited as I am to make some recipes with the new zero point foods, that Weight Watchers has added to their Points Program! One of those new zero point foods are potatoes!
That’s right! As of December 10th, Weight Watchers made a few changes to their current WW Points Program. You can read all about those changes HERE.
One of the exciting changes includes having 350 zero point foods! Isn’t that awesome!? ZeroPoint Foods are foods you don’t have to weigh, track, or measure on the WeightWatchers program. They’re the foundation of healthy, balanced eating. They are foods that are rich in protein and fiber, that help you stay fuller, longer. Click HERE for a list of the zero point foods!
Please note: the zero point list is slightly different if you are diabetic. You can find the list for the zero point foods for the diabetic plan HERE as well.
Alright, so some might ask-what are the benefits of incorporating potatoes into our diet?
Well, potatoes have many health benefits, including:
- Preventing diabetes-Sweet potatoes are high in fiber, which can help prevent blood sugar spikes.
- Vitamin C-A small potato (150g) provides about 15% of your daily vitamin C.
- Potassium-Potatoes are a rich source of potassium, which may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.
- Fiber-Fiber can help with digestion, regular bowel movements, and blood sugar levels.
- Heart health-Potatoes contain carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin, which may help protect the heart.
- Digestion-Sweet potatoes are high in fiber, which can help with digestion and prevent constipation.
- Cancer prevention-Sweet potatoes contain antioxidants, which may help protect against certain types of cancers.
Potatoes are also naturally fat free, cholesterol free, and low in sodium which makes them a great choice for those that are watching their sodium intake!
Alright…if you have been following Weight Watchers maybe you haven’t been eating potatoes all that much because you didn’t want to use daily or weekly points on them.. well, now that they are zero points..you can make some really delicious low point recipes with potatoes that can be used as a foundation of healthy, balanced eating!
Please know, if you’re following the Weight Watchers diabetic plan the point values will vary! You can determine the point value on your plan by simply clicking the red button at the bottom of each recipe post that will take you directly to the recipe in the ww app and it will show you the point value for you!
