What is bruschetta?

Bruschetta is a starter dish from Italy consisting of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil and salt. Variations may include toppings of tomatoes or vegetables. A popular dish is bruschetta with tomatoes; one recipe popular outside Italy involves basil, fresh tomato, garlic and onion or mozzarella. Bruschetta is usually served as a snack or appetizer. In some countries, the prepared topping is marketed as bruschetta.

What Ingredients do I need to make this Easy Bruschetta?

  • Baguette: Sliced into 24  ( .5 ounce or 1/4 inch thick) slices. I like to use 12 oz. of Trader Joe’s ciabatta baguette or I use 12 oz. of my Weight Watchers Quick and Easy Dough recipe. You can find the recipe HERE
  • Olive oil: Brush the oil over top of each slice of bread.
  • Tomatoes: I like to use red, orange, or yellow cherry tomatoes. Diced.
  • Balsamic vinegar: for flavor. This can be found by the salad dressings or pasta at most grocery stores or HERE on Amazon.
  • Garlic cloves: minced. fresh is best.
  • Basil: fresh, for flavor
  • Salt and pepper: for flavor
  • Balsamic glaze: drizzled on top. You can find this at most grocery stores. I love Trader Joe’s Balsamic glaze. It’s my absolute favorite. You can find HERE on Amazon.
