What is a flauta?

According to Wikipedia; a taquito or flauta is a Mexican food dish that typically consists of a small rolled-up tortilla that contains filling, including beef, cheese or chicken. The filled tortilla is then baked, crisp-fried, or deep-fried. The dish is often topped with condiments such as sour cream and guacamole.

What is the difference between a flauta and a taquito?

The difference between flautas and taquitos? Well, here’s the thing: taquitos are made of corn tortillas while flautas are made of flour tortillas.  Here’s the best part-You can choose to use corn tortilla or flour tortillas for this particular recipe!  I like to use low carb/ low point flour tortillas to make these flautas!

What ingredient do I need to make these Easy Creamy Chicken Flautas?
  • Light cream cheese– softened. I use Great Value light cream cheese from Walmart.
  • Green chilies– canned, not drained.
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Cumin
  • Chili powder
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Green onions- optional. If you don’t have-no worries. These just add a bit more flavor to the cream cheese mixture.
  • Cooked chicken-I use Kirkland canned chicken breast from Costco. However, you could use 1 1/4 cup cooked, shredded, skinless, boneless chicken or rotisserie chicken without the skin
  • Reduced fat or fat free cheddar cheese– I use Trader Joes three cheese blend
  • One point tortillas– I use 8-inch La Banderita Counter Low Carb Flour Tortillas-these tortillas are only 45 calories, 4 net carbs, and 1 smartpoint each. You could use Extreme Wellness Tortillas or Tumaro’s CarbWise Tortillas
  • Kosher salt
  • Favorite toppings such as: salsa, guacamole, fat free sour cream, cilantro, ect.
