Instant Pot or Slow Cooker Hot Apple Cider

This Instant Pot or Slow Cooker Hot Apple Cider will make your whole house smell amazing! It’s quick and easy-a must this Holiday Season!

Makes 8 (1 cup) servings

What ingredients do I need to make this Instant Pot or Slow Cooker Hot Apple Cider?

  • Apples- you will want to use a variety of 6 medium apples. I usually use 2 Gala, 2 Granny Smith, and 2 Golden Delicious which makes for a sweeter cider. For a sweeter cider- use Gala, Fuji, Cortland, Golden Delicious, or Red Delicious. For of a more tart flavor- use Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Braeburn, or McIntosh.
  • Navel oranges-two large oranges. You can keep the orange peels on-which gives the cider some bitterness- but if want the cider to be less bitter- then peel the oranges.
  • Fresh cranberries
  • Cinnamon sticks-for taste
  • Whole cloves-adjust to taste
  • Water
  • Zero point brown sugar sweetener- the sweetener I use is called Lakanto Golden Monkfruit Sweetener. The Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener has a 1:1 ratio to regular sugar. If you use different brand-such as Sukrin Gold– you’ll want to be sure to use the conversion for real sugar on back of the package. If you wanted-you can substitute the zero point brown sugar sweetener for regular unpacked brown sugar. The point value per serving would be 2 smartpoints.

And although all the fruit is discarded in this recipe-it is considered a “drink” therefore it would count towards personalpoints.

According to weight watchers if you drink fruit, it is points, how does that work with your drink

Hi Joyce,

Thank you for reaching out. I want to apologize for the misinformation on the point value for this recipe-I had original listed the point value as "zero points" when in fact it contains "fresh fruit juice."  I had researched and knew if you blended fruit for a smoothie on WW, the nutritional data for fruit counts towards-and although in this recipe all the fruit gets discarded-the fruit juice remains-therefore I did get clarification from WW and have since updated this recipe point values to reflect the fruit "juice."

According to WW, if the fruit is something you’ll drink, like a juice or fruit smoothie, the nutritional data for fruit counts towards the total SmartPoints value. If it’s something you’ll eat, like a salsa, sauce, stew or soup, most fresh fruits and vegetables have a 0 SmartPoints value. And although all the fruit is discarded in this recipe-it is considered a "DRINK" therefore it would count towards smartpoints.

I'm confused . . . for the slow cooker, do you add the water at beginning of 1.5 hours or AFTER the 1.5 hours? Thanks!

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for reaching out. I apologize if that is confusing-You will add the water on top of all the fruit PRIOR to cooking.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
