Air Fry or Baked Tuna Patties

These Air Fry or Baked Tuna Patties make for quick & easy lunch or dinner-using canned tuna fish, green onions, lemon juice, light mayo or Greek yogurt, seasonings, and breadcrumbs! These Tuna Patties are cooked in an air fryer or baked in the oven-making them a healthier alternative to fried tuna patties!

What ingredients do I need to make these Air Fry or Baked Tuna Patties?

  • Albacore tuna fish in water- rinsed and drained. I use Kirkland brand from Costco. 
  • Large eggs-to bind the ingredients together. If you don’t have eggs as a zero point food item-you can use egg beaters to reduce the overall point value.
  • Light Kraft Mayo or non fat plain Greek yogurt– gives the tuna patties a creamy soft inside-you can use either (not both). I like to use light may for this particular recipe.
  • Lemon juice-for flavor.
  • Minced green onion-for flavor.
  • Garlic powder- for flavor.
  • Oregano– for flavor.
  • Dill weed – you can use fresh or dried dill weed.
  • Salt and Pepper- to taste.
  • Italian style bread crumbs– used for binding the tuna cakes.
  • Panko crumbs- used for the crust/top coat.

Why do I use two different kind of bread crumbs?

You will want to use the Italian style breadcrumbs for inside the tuna cakes- they help bind the eggs, and tuns together. The Panko crumbs are used for the crust and to coating the outside of the tuna patties. The Panko crumbs crisp up so much nicer than regular breadcrumbs and make them tuna patties crispy and golden brown.

How do I make these Air Fry or Baked Tuna Patties?

In a medium size bowl, add tuna, eggs, light mayo, mined green onion, seasonings, lemon juice, and salt and pepper, to taste. Stir until well combined.

Add bread crumbs and mix together until well blended.

Shape the mixture into 8 patties-about 1/4 cup mixture per patty-then fatten it to shape into a patty. These patties can be made thinner or thicker depending on your desired preference.

Place the patties on a parchment-paper-lined plate and refrigerate for 30-60 minutes or until firm. This will make them easier to handle during cooking.

Place Panko bread crumbs in a shallow bowl or plate and coat the outside of the tuna patties with the Panko bread crumbs.

Lightly spray each patty with cooking spray.

Air Fry Directions:

Set the air fryer to 390 degrees. Lightly spray the fry basket with cooking spray and working in batches if needed, add the patties to the basket in a single layer.

Cook for 4-6 minutes per side, about ( 10-12 minutes) or until each side is golden brown.

Serve warm with lightened up tartar sauce, and lemon wedges, if desired.

Baked Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Bake for 10 minutes, then transfer baking sheet to the top rack and set the oven to broil. Broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the tops of the tuna cakes are golden brown and have crisped up.
  3. Serve warm with lightened up tartar sauce, and lemon wedges, if desired.

Author Notes:

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat the leftovers using an air fryer. They will crisp nicely.  Reheat in the air fryer for about 3 minutes at 390 degrees until warmed through. If you do not have an air fryer, you can reheat them using a skillet on the stove with a little cooking spray.
