I use Devotion Nutrition Angel Food Cake Protein Powder as the base this recipe. It’s 1 Smart point per scoop or for one sample packet.

You can order this online and save 10% on your order with Devotion using promo code PD10.

Click HERE to order on Devotion’s website.

I use the Hamilton Beach Waffle Maker. It cooks the waffle nice and crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, just like a waffle should be. I got it on Amazon.

Click here to check it out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop Angel Food Cake Devotion Nutrition protein powder or 1/4 cup of any other protein powder that is especially used for cooking
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2-4 tbsp of water
  • a dash of almond, lemon, or  vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl combine egg, protein powder, baking powder, water, and extract in a bowl.
  2. Mix with a wire whisk or fork.
  3. The batter should be on the thinner side. But not toot thin. (Too much water will make the batter over flow.)
  4. Preheat a waffle maker and spray it with with non stick cooking spray. Pour batter into waffle iron.
  5. Remove from waffle iron.
  6. Top with your favorite toppings such as: fresh fruit, Alyssa’s Gluten Free Oatmeal bites ( 1 point for 1 cookie or 3 points for 2 cookies, 2 Tbsp peanut butter powder or pb2 ( 1 Smart Point), 1 Tbsp sugar free caramel sauce ( 1 Smart Point) or 1 Tbsp melted whip Jif peanut butter (2 Smart Points)and/or fat free Reddi Whip.

Servings: Makes 1 waffle

GREEN: 3 SmartPoints per waffle

BLUE: 1 SmartPoint per waffle

PURPLE: 1 SmartPoint per waffle

Point value does not include any toppings.  Top with your choice of toppings for additional points.

Note:

In order to calculate the Smart points on a recipe you have to enter the ingredients in manually (by ingredient) not by the nutritional information in the ww recipe builder-since this recipe contains zero point items the app doesn’t realize there is zero point items in the recipe and will calculate it based only off the nutritional info which is not accurate.

Hi Are the sample packs the same as the large containers of protein powder?

      Hi Jean,

One sample packet is equivalent to one scoop of the big 2lb container.

I like the 2lb container since you get more for your money!

      Thanks

Question: have you ever made the batter ahead of time, such as night before or a couple days out, then stored in fridge til used? Wondered if it compromised the texture in any way. Please let me know….I’m REALLY lazy in the mornings and like things I don’t have to mix up and measure, ha!

      Hi Elisse,

Thanks for your comment. I don’t recommend refrigerating the batter- I have tried it and the waffles texture just isn’t right. You can give it a try and see what you think.

      Thanks so much

Do these waffles have a crispy outside after cooked? I miss that in all the waffle recipes I’ve tried.
    Thanks!

      Hi Daelene,

Yes, the secret to getting these waffles crispy on the outside is the waffle iron. It makes all the difference. I highly recommend this waffle iron and using canola oil cooking spray with this recipe to get them nice and crispy!

Here’s the link for this awesome waffle make that I use.

I am a new subscriber and your waffle maker is unavailable on amazon. Will this recipe work with the Dash mini waffle maker which makes a 4 inch waffle? Or, is there another waffle maker that you can recommend? How can I modify the waffle recipe to make a batch?

        Hi Jay!

Yes you can use the mini Dash waffle maker. The recipe will make 2 mini waffles if you were to use that mini waffle maker. I like using a Belgium waffle maker-here’s a link for another brand that I have and love if you want to check it out. >https://amzn.to/3iFsWLd

Please be sure to use a non stick canola oil cooking spray on the waffle makers-so the batter doesn’t stick.

        Thanks so much!

When I read the recipe I don’t see where you add angel food mix.
What is a scoop of cake mix?

      Hi Dot,

The Angel Food Cake is a flavor of protein powder made by Devotion. It’s not the Angel Food Cake mix.

To make this waffle 1 point you will need to buy the Angel Food Cake protein powder that can be found online here:
      http://devotionnutrition.com/?aff=57

          Hi Denise,

It’s 3 Smartpoints on the GREEN plan. 1 Smartpoint for the 1 scoop of Angel Food Cake Devotion Protein Powder and 2 SmartPoints for the egg. The toppings are additional points.

To calculate the smart points on a recipe you have to enter the ingredients in manually (by creating a recipe in the recipe builder) not by the nutritional information. If this recipe contains zero point items the WW app doesn’t realize there are zero point items. Therefore, if you calculate it based only off the nutritional information which will not be accurate.

          Hope that helps!

          Thank you!

PS>The recipe has now been updated for all 3 plans

      Hi Denise

The other brand that I have used and tried that is also great for baking is Quest. You can find that at GNC, Walmart, or Target.

      Thank you!

Yes, it would be the same point value with a scoop of quest.

          Thanks

Can Kodiak mix be used instead of the protein mix you used? Thanks!

      Hi Leah,

Yes, you can substitute the protein powder for 1/3 cup Kodiak. It would be 3 points vs. 1 point.

      Thanks so much!

This is very good! I have a question about your nutritional information though. The container days one scoop of the protein powder is 3 carbohydrates, and yet you have 28 grams of carbs listed here. Is this an error? Thank you.

          Hi Terri,

My apologies, the nutritional information for my recipes is imported into a 3rd party nutrition application and it looks like it got entered in as angel food cake not the Devotion Nutrition protein powder angel food cake.

I have updated the accurate nutritional information.

          Thank you so much!

      Hi

I have to say; that has happened to me when I have used a different waffle maker. ( when I’m out of town or at our cabin) With that said, every waffle can vary by size. I recommend cutting back on the water. Just start with 2 tbsp and you can also omit the baking powder ( which makes it the batter rise)

Those two things will make a big difference.

      Thanks so much
