What Ingredients do I need to make these Sausage and Cheese Biscuits?
- Self-rising flour -I use Gold Medal brand
- Plain nonfat Greek yogurt -I use Fage or Trader Joe’s
- Two eggs-divided
- Jimmy Dean fully cooked turkey sausage crumbles– I like to use Jimmy Dean fully cooked turkey crumbles. They are fully cooked and don’t require cooking or crumbling-another reason is a 3/4 cup is only 3 Smartpoints! You can find this next to the bacon in the refrigerated area at Walmart. If you can’t find it you can always use any brand of cooked turkey sausage and then crumble it yourself. You’ll use 3/4 cup or about 4 oz.

Hi Mary. I will add your email to my email list for you! Thank you
Do you think this would work with crumbled bacon?
Oh yes! Crumbled bacon would work just as well.
Lindsay, hi lovie! I’m the same lady that told you about the Sukrin gold brown sugar replacement. I use it quite a bit. Hey I gotta make these biscuits! Have you ever tried Cabot 50% less fat sharp cheddar? Girl let’s talk! It is so flavorful and it’s like 2 ozs for 4 pts I think. I was ordering from the maker of the cheese, Dakin farms directly, but have since found it at my local Hy bee. It would be great in these biscuits! Keep doing what you’re doing…love your recipes!
Uh, I meant my local Hy Vee store
I haven’t made these YET but do you think they would be good for breakfast with white gravy? Like a biscuits and gravy meal? My mind went there automatically so was just curious! Thanks!!
Just made these! So yummy. Want to make for Christmas morning. I take breakfast to another house. How would you suggest to keep these warm or best way to reheat? Thanks.
Oh that is so great to hear. So, You can reheat the in the microwave or oven. IF you do microwave them I would suggest covering them with a damp paper towel to help keep them from drying out. Thank you! Merry Christmas!
wondering if you think this would work with GF flour 1 to 1? How essential is the self rising element?
Yes. You would just add 1 tsp of baking powder and a dash of salt per 1/2 cup of the gluten free flour. Thanks
I just tried these for the first time. I wanted a little sweet flavor, so I added some Maple Extract to the dough. They turned out fantastic. Thanks for the recipe!!!
How much dough would you say we are scooping out and dropping on the sheet? Like a small cookie scooper or tablespoon maybe?
I use a small spoon to scoop them onto a baking sheet. Thank you!
Have you made any thing sweet with this dough?(like cinnamon and some sort of seeetner). Can you use any other flour? Almond or coconut? Do you know if it would be just as WW friendly?
I haven’t made it with any other kind of flour. I can be done as long as you add 1/2 tsp of baking powder and a pinch of salt. That way it will help the biscuits rise. The point value would depend on the brand of flour used. Hope that helps. Thank you
Do you know how many smart points this would be? They look delicious!
Hi! I’m new to your website, but you have some amazing recipes that I can’t wait to try:) I just had a quick question about your 2 ingredient dough recipe: have you ever used the dairy free plain yogurts? Just wondering if you think they will work the same way without any adjustments. Thanks!
Hi Jessica!
Welcome! I’m so happy you are excited to try my recipes. As for the 2 ingredient dough-I have not tried using a dairy free plain yogurt. I have used regular plain non fat yogurt and I have to say that the dough is super sticky when I have used it.
You could give it a try-I would recommend using bit less of it since it may be a thinner and adding an egg to dough to help bond the yogurt and self rising flour together.
Hope that helps!
Linds
Where do you find the Jimmy Dean Turkey sausage crumbles?
Hi Judee,
I get them at Walmart or Kroger next to the refrigerated sausages and bacon.
Thanks
LOVED this recipe. Leftovers are great warmed in the microwave. I even split one of the leftover biscuits in half and cooked an egg to put in the middle to make a breakfast sandwich. I had never tried the turkey sausage crumbles, but they were great in this recipe!
Hi really looking forward to making
these! A quick questions about freezing these do they freeze well or not really?
Hi Vanessa,
Yes, these do freeze well. They can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to a month. Just thaw them overnight in the fridge when ready to reheat.
Thank you!
These look yummy…..have you ever made them without cheese ??? if so –any thoughts or suggestions ??? thanks
Hi Doris
I haven’t-but you could give that a try! I’m sure they would still be super delish!
Thanks
