How do I make this Zero Point Marinara Sauce?
Place canned tomatoes, garlic cloves, fresh basil, and parsley into a blender or food processor, blend for about 30 seconds until pureed.
Place in a large sauce pan or dutch oven. Add minced dry onions, salt, and oregano. Stir until well combined.
Stir in tomato sauce for desired consistency.
Let the sauce simmer for ten minutes.
How do I thicken or thin out the sauce?
Depending on your preference of thickness-you can choose to make the sauce thinner or thicker by adding water or cornstarch.
To thicken: Use cornstarch. Cornstarch is pretty neutral in flavor and can be easily added to the sauce. Simply stir in a small amount of 1/2 tsp cornstarch into the pasta sauce and let it cook for a minute or two. You’ll often see thickening results with a small amount of cornstarch.
To thin out: add 1/4-1 cup tomato sauce while sauce is simmering.
Ingredients:
- 2 ( 14 oz ) cans of Hunts 100% Natural no salt added diced tomatoes
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 5-6 fresh basil leaves or 2 Tbsp dried basil
- 2 Tbsp dried oregano
- 2 Tbsp minced dried onions
- 4 Tbsp fresh parsley or 1 Tbsp dried parsley
- 1 Tbsp kosher salt
- 1/4 cup to 1 cup tomato sauce, if desired
Directions:
- Place canned tomatoes, garlic cloves, fresh basil, and parsley into a blender or food processor, blend for about 30 seconds until pureed.
- Place in a large sauce pan or dutch oven. Add minced dried onions, salt, and dried oregano. Stir until well combined.
- Stir in tomato sauce for desired consistency.
- Let the sauce simmer for ten minutes.
- Use on pasta, spaghetti squash, pizza, ect.
Notes:
- For a thinner sauce: Add 1/4 to 1 cup tomato sauce.
- For a thicker sauce: Whisk 1/2 tsp cornstarch with a little water. Pour into the simmer sauce and stir until well combined.
- Add 2 tsp of zero point white granulated sugar substitute, for added sweetness.

Thanks, this sounds like what I have been looking for. Thanks also for all of your hard work posting your other recipes also.
Great recipe! Taste wonderful! Your recipes are a blessing!
Just finished making your zero point marinara for the chicken lasagna. I like spice so I added a little hot Rotel tomatoes. Delicious. Not buying pizza sauce again.
How long can this be kept in the frig?
I recommend storing it an air tight container for up to a week in the fridge or it can be frozen for up to 6 months. I usually freeze all but a few servings that I plan on having for the week. Thanks so much!
I don’t have a brown sugar substitute. What can I use?
Hi Carole,
You can use regular brown sugar however the points would be differnet. Here’s a link for a good brown sugar substitute that is 0 points if you want to purchase some.

I absolutely love your recipes. I have made the Chicken salad, marinated chicken, bbq chicken, etc. please keep them coming!
Wow! I made this yesterday using a bunch of whole tomatoes I had (I shouldn’t have added the water, but it still turned out great)! My kids (who will typically NOT eat pasta, because they don’t like red sauce, LOVED this sauce (even my watery version)! My husband didn’t believe me that it was 0 smart points either. My kids asked if this could be the only sauce we use any more. I’m totally sold, and it is SO easy and simple. Thank you!
I will ask again – is the amount of salt correct? 1 Tbsp??? did you mean 1 tsp??
thanks
Hi Jeanie,
Yes, 1 Tbsp is correct. For the amount of sauce this recipe makes, 1 Tbsp is the correct amount. You can always always add 1-2 can of crushed tomatoes if your batch came out too salty or for the future reduce it to 1/2 Tbsp the next time you make it, according to your taste preference.
Hope that helps! Have a wonderful evening.

There was a question about brown sugar substitute, but I don’t see that in the recipe.
Hi Elaine
I’m not sure if that comment was intended for this recipe. This recipe does not call for brown sugar substitute.
Thank, Linds
That’s what I thought but I wanted to be sure. Thanks
Love this recipe. Thanks for sharing. gonna try it today for sure 🙂
I’m looking forward to trying this. It looks really great. Is there a reason you use diced tomatoes and purée them instead of just using Hunts tomato sauce? By the way your French Onion Chicken is to die for and an absolute favourite of both my husband and mine. Thanks for all the fabulous recipes. They’ve made my WW journey so much easier then before.
Patricia
Can this sauce be canned?
Hi Krista,
I usually will freeze it in ziplock baggies but canning would work just as well.
Thank you!
This recipe is PERFECT. I made it yesterday for the Cream Cheese Chicken Lasagna (which buy the way is DELISH!) and it was so yummy I made a quadruple batch so I could divvy it up in containers and freeze some for later use. Couldn’t have been easier! Uses all things that I already have on hand. Thanks for a wonderful share! Love all your recipes.
So yummy and I’m pretty picky!! ❤️
Can you use tomato sauce instead of the diced tomatoes?
