This Skinny Orange Chicken is a light version of any takeout Orange Chicken-easy to make and low in points!

GREEN: 4 Smartpoints per serving

BLUE: 2 SmartPoints per serving

PURPLE: 2 SmartPoints per serving

This recipe will go perfectly with these recipes:

Chicken Fried Cauliflower Rice

Easy Low Point Wonton Soup

Egg Roll in a Bowl

Lighter Chicken Chow Mein

This Skinny Orange Chicken can made in the Instant Pot for a quick and easy weekday meal or in the Slow Cooker for those days when you want dinner ready when you get home.

Combine soy sauce, brown sugar substitute, chicken pieces, and BBQ sauce into the slow cooker or instant pot.

Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4 hours.

Scoop out 1/4 cup of the barbecue sauce mixture from the instant pot or slow cooker and mix with 2 tsp of cornstarch and pace in a small mixing bowl. Whisk until the cornstarch has been completely incorporated. (This will help prevent lumps from the cornstarch and will help thicken the sauce.)

Add the orange marmalade.

Cook for an additional 30-45 minutes on low.

Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving. The sauce will begin to thicken as it sits.

Serve with white/brown rice or cauliflower rice and your favorite veggie.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ( 4 oz.) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 (12.75 oz.) jar Smucker’s sugar free orange marmalade
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 8 Tbsp or 1/2 cup sugar free BBQ sauce ( I use G Hughes original sugar free BBQ sauce)
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar substitute ( I use Lakanto Golden Monkfruit Sweetener)
  • 2 tsp corn starch
  • Garnish with diced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Instant Pot Directions:

  1. Combine soy sauce, brown sugar substitute, chicken pieces, and BBQ sauce into instant pot.
  2. Cook on manual high for 4 minutes.
  3. When the chicken is done, fast release the steam.
  4. Scoop out 1/4 cup of the barbecue sauce mixture from the instant pot and mix with 2 tsp of cornstarch and pace in a small mixing bowl. Whisk until the cornstarch has been completely incorporated. (This will help prevent lumps from the cornstarch and will help thicken the sauce.)
  5. Pour cornstarch mixture back into Instant Pot.
  6. Add orange marmalade. Stir well.
  7. Change setting on Instant Pot to sauté setting and sauté for 5 minutes or until sauce thickens.
  8. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving. The sauce will begin to thicken as it sits.
  9. Garnish with diced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
  10. Serve with white/brown rice or cauliflower rice and your favorite veggie.

Slow Cooker Directions:

  1. Combine soy sauce, brown sugar substitute, chicken pieces, and BBQ sauce into the slow cooker.
  2. Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4 hours.
  3. Scoop out 1/4 cup of the orange/barbecue sauce mixture from the slow cooker and mix with 2 tsp of cornstarch in a small mixing bowl. Whisk until cornstarch has been completely incorporated. (This will help prevent lumps from the cornstarch and will help thicken the sauce.)

Notes

  1. In order to calculate the freestyle smart points on a recipe you have to enter the ingredients in manually (by ingredient) not by the nutritional information in the ww recipe builder-since this recipe contains zero point items the app doesn’t realize there is zero point items in the recipe and will calculate it based only off the nutritional info which is not accurate.

This recipe does NOT need the extra sweetener, the bbq sauce & marmalade are plenty sweet without it.

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for your comment review. I appreciate it. You can omit the extra sweetener if you prefer. I like to add a little extra as a binding agent for the bbq sauce and the orange marmalade.

      Thanks so much,

      Linds

This recipe was delicious and worth searching multiple grocery stores for the Orange marmalade

      Hi Debbie.

Thank you for your fantastic review. I am thrilled to hear it was worth the search. Glad you were able to find it. My local Walmart seems to be the only store that carries the sugar free one.

      Thanks so much!

My wife and I loved this recipe, I used Stubb’s BBQ sauce, and it drove the flavor. The sauce consistency was a little runnier this way, so might need a bit more corn starch next time.

[…] Skinny Orange Chicken – The sauce was really good, but for some reason, the chicken came out a bit tough. I think it might be because I bought the chicken that was already diced. We plan on making it again, but use full chicken breasts and shred it. […]
